On Urgency

“It has seemed to be more necessary to have regard to the weight of words rather than to their number” (Cicero).

“We do not consider simultaneous submissions.” What does that tell you, when the top ranking literary magazines demand exclusivity? What are the odds? Push, push, push. More, more, more. Always something new.

So much for the steady hand, hard labor. “You will always be able to destroy anything you haven’t published; a word, once released, does not know how to return” (Horace).
